drop an email to your previous boss or the HR person that you were last in touch with and ask for a short phone call – it is easier to explain things over the phone
in that phone call , be honest as to why you left the company and what you did not get in the new company
it helps if you did not burn bridges and left on good terms
that is why you should always keep keep contacts and relationships open with your ex-employers
for the recruiters who you had turned down after interviewing – you could approach them as well and be honest about what you were looking for
