if you can start work within a short time .. you will be a desired candidate

if you are in between jobs or working as a contractor ( meaning your notice period is short ) – you become a desired candidate for a permanent position , all other things being equal and you have cleared the interview rounds ( technical / human resources )

this is because most companies are looking for candidates who can join immediately or at a short notice
